About me

Gill Cox FRSA
  • Specialising in portraits of people and pets plus wildlife my preferred medium of pastels displays well the subtleties of the ‘sitter’.
  • I love to translate formal portraits – of people, pets or wildlife – into a softer, more relaxed style that has become my trademark.
  • I live and work in the North Cotswolds where I can be contacted for commissions.
  • Constantly painting and drawing figures and animals as a child, a business and academic career took over specialising in people development. Dabbling again in later years, in 2003 the sudden loss of sight in one eye led me to paint more actively to help my stronger eye compensate.
  • Mainly self-taught but influenced by the later work of Degas and Cassatt, with expert tuition from a range of specialists I predominantly work in pastels, occasionally other mediums.
In addition to annual exhibitions and private commissions, Artwork by Gilly appears in:
  • Ibstone Millennium Cookery Book (publ. 1999)
  • ‘George’ limited edition canvas boxed print of pastel portrait available at Watling Street Galleries Towcester, from 2009
  • ‘Jasper’ and ‘Rory Rabbit’ children’s books - awaiting publication.
Awarded Pat Wardell Trophy for Best Art Exhibit ‘Figure of Young Girl in Hat’ (pastels) Ibstone Annual Show 2000.
